BIOIMPULSE Project
Sept 2019 – Sept 2025

The BioImpulse project aims to create a new adhesive resin without substances of concern, called Substance of Very High Concern (SVHC). Through the development of a biosourced molecule of interest, this project will open up new applications for biotechnologies in the field of materials.

Project
Objectives
The main objectives of the BioImpulse project:
- Create a new adhesive resin without SVHC compound, with a better impact on health and the environment,
- Develop on an industrial scale a production process by fermentation of a molecule of interest at a cost lower than its oil equivalent,
- Promote new adhesive resin technology in the automotive and construction markets (wood, in particular),
- Produce this resin in small, compact and decentralized installations, as close as possible to customers, reducing its complexity and implementation costs.
The originality of this project is to integrate a large part of the value chain: from the biological production of the molecule, to the application performance of the resin.
Eco-design (in particular via production by fermentation, with the possibility of supplying 2G biomass – Non-competing with food) will be at the heart of the project, in order to take into account health, environmental and economic aspects.
CRITT Bio-Industries
Contribution
CRITT Bio-Industries is in charge of developing a complete purification process for the biosourced molecule of interest produced by fermentation.
- Study of different separation/purification techniques: development and development of a chain of unit operations to achieve the desired specifications (studies of different unit operations, screening of industrial membranes, etc.);
- Sequence of unit operations on pre-industrial equipment (scale-up, yields, purities, flows);
- Optimization of chaining and obtaining/transfer of pre-sizing data (yields, purities, flows, etc.);
- Production of batches at different degrees of purity for application tests.
